Dimitri LaVey

“Your timing sucks, your silence is a blessing.”

-Slipknot

He is the character that every other character is based around. That is to say, his biography is what I use as a time-line for their universe. When an event takes place I often find myself asking “how old would Dimitri have been at that time?” so I can work it into the overall scheme of things. If he wasn’t born yet, I ask myself how many years before his birth it occurred.

He is certainly my most fleshed out character; I created him in September 2004, the first drawing of him was done during art class at school when I was fifteen years of age. He was created from “Diluted” by Slipknot, and to this day I still associate him with that song.

Personality

Dimitri is naive but he’s highly intelligent.

He puts 110% into everything he does, and is highly altruistic, but he hurts people easily. He’s naive because while everything he does is with good intention , he does not understand that his vision of reality, or justice, is somewhat skewered.  He doesn’t understand that his perception of reality isn’t the same as everyone else.

He’s intelligent because he knows so much- but it’s textbook knowledge. He doesn’t know how to apply that knowledge to an everyday situation or person. He acts very much like a child  since his childhood was stolen from him; he never had a chance to grow up in his own head. He’s prone to bouts of tantrum-like anger and speaks in singsong babble most of the time.

Dimitri is harmless for the most part despite his volatile nature. He’s very destructive when bored, though. It’s then that his caring, altruistic nature goes out the window.

Character History from Birth to Moment in Story

0-5
Doesn’t react very well to kindergarten; always a loner. Starts Primary School locally at age 5.

6-10
David becomes a raging alcoholic. His abuse to Dimitri starts when he’s 6 years of age; Ella becomes a victim to his violence as well. Despite this, Dimitri’s school attendance and marks don’t falter. He does very well but has very few friends- has a hard time conversing with people his age. He does make friends with the teachers, however. At age eight he starts piano lessons.

11-15
School life starts slipping through his fingers. The abuse at home is too much, causing him to lose focus.  Develops outbursts of violence. When he enters High School at 13, a week into it, he lashes out and breaks a kids arm for calling him a faggot. From that point on Ella decides to homeschool him; being a teacher, it is convenient. At 15 he ceases piano lessons. That same year, they move to a new home- the mansion.

Ella opens up a boarding school for Orphans and suggests Dimitri attends class with them. He does sparingly until he is sixteen. He spends most of his time laying in the medical bay escaping from the children, and his father.

16-20
David loses his job to his alcoholism; being home all of the time, he gets bored, and the abuse heightens. He is caught cheating on Ella with Nadia- a woman with two other sons. When Dimitri is seventeen years old, he shields the eyes of a seven year old Nathaniel from the sight of Ella being shot in the head by David in their kitchen. Gabriel slaughters the orphans- convinces Dimitri it is for the greater good, they stole affection from his mother.

The house is boarded up- certain rooms hidden by constructing cupboards in front of them, also locking some of them and hiding the key. The mansion had a lot of interesting features, most of which Dimitri had discovered in his long walks around the house at night- i,e, rooms hidden behind a wall of mirrors, that only he knew about. The changes were done unbeknownst to Nadia and her sons, David knew Dimitri would be too afraid to tell a soul.

Dimitri is eighteen when Nadia and David get married. He does not attend the wedding. Gabriel and Dimitri spend most of their time in the medical bay talking, and Dimitri protects Nathaniel from receiving the same fate he did by keeping watch on him whenever Nadia is not around. Since Nadia came into David’s life, the sexual abuse stops, but the violence does not. Nate never has to put up with it.

At nineteen years old, Dimitri shoots his father in the same kitchen with the same gun he used to kill Ella with. He drives Nadia insane until she hangs herself, unable to cope wit the three of them alone. The night that happens, he goes to a local restaurant to clear his head, where he meets Vaughan- a waiter-  who offers him a life at his Church. They spend a year conversing and he helps Dimitri look after his brothers, before he agrees to Vaughan’s proposition.

21-25
Dimitri prepares to leave- gets Gabriel and Nathaniel work, and makes sure they know everything about the appliances in the house just to be sure since Dimitri was usually the one doing the cleaning and maintenance. He assures them that he will still help with rent and food costs, which he does- even though they do not exchange words for a long time.

Vaughan and Dimitri spent a year preparing in the church Vaughan had built. Bunkers were built for the to-be army, a small hospital to provide for them too. Vaughan had quite a lot of military training behind his belt and taught Dimitri all about discipline and how to deal with ones emotions. He found this very useful, given that he’d had a very tragic life.

It was that year- at twenty two years of age- that Dimitri changed his last name to be free of his family anguish.

The following year, they accept members. It starts with friends Vaughan had met in Military school and friends of the family, but grew into something huge. It took two years until they were able to function as a military and religious force, at which point Dimitri was 25 years of age.

A war was wages soon as Vaughan’s church had got on its feet, and both sides kept pulling in allies. Vaughan offered Dimitri a place as an officer. He kindly declined- an action Vaughan was not pleased with. As punishment Vaughan gave Dimitri a Glasgow grin and banished him from his holy grounds. Dimitri heads back to his home, where Nathaniel and Gabriel reside. Dimitri never sees Vaughan again.

26-present
He has been in the house unbeknownst to his brothers for a year now. Living in a room hidden behind mirrors, only Gabriel is aware of his presence. He did not want Nathaniel to know he was back, he felt guilty for abandoning him.

Dimitri acquires work as a Librarian; He works mostly night shifts in the history archives, not having to deal face-to-face with people. He loves to sort things and he gets to read the files in his downtime. The relaxing atmosphere of the job gives him time to think- one of his favourite passtimes.

When he is twenty eight years of age, Nathaniel receives an inquiry from a man named Lucifer. He asks if he and his family can live in the mansion also. They needed to upgrade to a larger house. Nathaniel welcomed them in; the six additional people would help with rent and food costs, and would definitely help when it came to cleaning. Dimitri remains a mystery to the house; he finally contacts Nate and tells him not to disclose any information, happy to see him again Nate obliges. Gabriel keeps highly low-key also.

Typical Day in the Life of Dimitri

He spends most of his time tormenting Lucifer & Co on their walks at night. He has no intention of killing any of them, or driving them insane; he’s just bored. His days at work are fairly routine, but he likes it that way. In his spare time he visits Nate in his room, or Gabriel while they hide in the medical bay talking.

He continues to play piano, despite the presence of the others, which has spread the rumour that the house he lives in is haunted.
